Since the beginning of time, small businesses owners have been seeking ways to stretch their marketing dollars and out-perform their competitors. It’s a base human instinct combined with capitalism that makes business people desire ‘marketing coups’ where they hope to spend less money and yet make an equal or greater amount of impressions than their closest rivals, against which they invariably measure themselves. The dream is to out-perform competitors through hard work and smart business marketing. A good, well connected PR company can help them do that.

Vehicle Wrapping Has Matured As a Marketing Tactic

One of the best ways to make low cost impressions in the community is by wrapping a company vehicle with the firm’s business logo and pitch. Then every single excursion expands the reach of the business. Statistics provided by the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA) highlight vehicle wraps as the lowest cost-per-impression signage option, above any other form of outdoor advertising. A single vehicle wrap can generate between 30,000 and 70,000 daily impressions. The fleeting glances are more than twice as likely to convert in smaller markets, urban neighborhoods and rural communities where reputation is really important. Local targeting-driving (and parking) a wrapped vehicle around local service areas can dramatically increase awareness among those who live, work or attend school nearby; parked vehicles attract the attention of pedestrians, especially in busy urban settings, but also at local sporting or cultural events, colleges, conventions and trade shows.

So it was with this in mind that we accepted an invitation from Avi Barak of Sign Source Solution vehicle wrapping in Toronto to have a free mock-up done with our business logo and ‘call to action’ emblazoned on the sides, and well, as you can see, it’s all over the car.

Vehicle wraps work all year long, three hundred and sixty five days per year, for five to ten years, making the actual amortized investment manageable for most small businesses few dollars per day, by some estimates. Avi told us that this free design would normally cost between two and three hundred dollars.

The design process includes the following five steps;

  1. Retrieve the Vehicle Template
  2. Design
  3. Layout
  4. Mock-up
  5. The approval process (which includes the initial layout + 2 revisions or 2 hours of design time whichever is greater – additional small revisions or extra hour are $85).

How much does vehicle wrapping cost?

The estimated price for the printing and preparation and installation of the ‘vehicle grade’ 3m vinyl on the both sides of the car and decals on the rear, is only $1,200 + hst!

How long does vehicle wrapping take?

Avi told us that Sign Source Solution can do the vinyl printing, cutting and wrapping in one day, but prefer to do it over two days, especially in the wintertime. Avi writes, “…with the weather getting cooler outside, we like to park the car or truck in the shop the night before to get acclimatized, and the vehicle should remain inside our warm dry heated shop the following night after the vinyl application, for best results. The glue on the vinyl will get stronger over time.”

With a little imagination and the right creative services provider, many local businesses could easily integrate vehicle-wraps into their marketing mix. This tactic works well for neighbourhood bars, restaurants and cafes, beauty salons and specialty retail shops such as florists, clothiers and pet groomers. These days it’s not uncommon to see consultants, real estate firms, attorneys and other service professionals including health care clinics and dentists.. and PR agencies?

Who knows.. we may indeed get a wrap in 2016. What do you think of the design?
